Break These Plus-Size Fashion Rules Then Make Your Own!

Most fashion magazines normally don’t include women that wear double digits. And when they do the information, the images and the trends are limited. We’ve been told to that certain silhouettes and trends just don’t work on a fuller figure, I say that it’s time to experiment, time to try rocking those cool snake print leggings that you have had your eye on this season. And because I want your final look to be flawless I have a few simple tips to for you to follow. Remember, a stylish life belongs to those that break the rules and wears what makes them happy…

Plus-Size Fashion Rule # 1 Plus-size women can’t wear leggings

Why you should break it: Leggings are not pants, but they are a trendy wardrobe staple that are going to have several seasonal lives. I love leggings because they can add a really fabulous dimension when worn with a dress, a strategically draped tunic or a hi-lo top. Leather accents, liquid snake skin print or two toned jacquard leggings can be really flattering when your top is a loose silhouette that hits your mid to upper thigh and covers your bottom. This balances and flatters your proportions and the result is perfectly chic.

Plus-Size Fashion Rule # 2 Body-con is a no-no

Bodycon is a No-no

Why you should break it: The body-con dress is for the confident woman. It is the dress trend that features every curve. I highly suggest that you first make sure that you are wearing the proper fitting bra, meaning that it lifts, separates and is engineered to smooth your back. Then put on the seamless slip dress. You should feel supported by the slip dress in your tummy, hips and thighs. If you feel the need for a little extra support I suggest going down a size. Now you’re ready for a flawless fitting body-con dress.

Plus-Size Fashion Rule # 3 No bold patterns

Why you should break it: Whether it’s a winter garden, brushstrokes or graphic prints know that you can wear them. I think that substantial abstract prints that aren’t too strategically placed work best on a fuller figure. If it’s a blouse pair it with solid pants, jeans or a skirt for balance. If you are really feeling bold, pair it with another print. And if it’s a dress don’t shy away from statement accessories. There’s nothing minimalist about prints, a playful approach to this trend is best.

Plus-Size Fashion Rule # 4 Activewear stays at the gym.

Activewear stays at the gym

Why you should break it: Active wear is not just for the gym anymore. Some of the most unexpected trends that you can mix with your wardrobe staples are from the active zone. This seasons embellished sweat shirts have become my new favorite. I pair them with pencil skirts and boots for a more upscale look and I wear them with my favorite harem pants for an edgier loo. The new sweats are comfortable and on trend but they don’t ever have to be sloppy.
